Electricity

Mains supply and power in Greenland
In Greenland the mains supply is 220 Volts, and plugs are of the European type, i.e. with two round pins. If you are arriving from a country with another type of plug, it is recommended that you bring an adapter with you, as adapters can only be bought at a very few outlets in Greenland.

A number of places to stay in Kangerlussuaq, which is a former American military base, also run on 110 Volts and use American plug types. More information can be obtained from Kangerlussuaq Tourism and Hotel Kangerlussuaq.

Northern Lights in Eastgreenland

If you are staying overnight at a sheep-farming station in South Greenland, you cannot expect it to be connected to the mains, or that electricity will be available 24 hours a day. In such cases, electricity is provided by means of a small petrol-driven generator.
