Activities in Aasiaat

With its location at the edge of a large archipelago, Aasiaat primarily offers attractions on the water. In addition, the area is known for its rich wildlife in and over the sea.

In a kayak between icebergs and islands
With a guide who knows everything there is to know about the area and the local weather conditions, you can go on a kayak trip for both beginners and experienced paddlers. All trips start with a course that introduces you to kayaking in the Arctic, after which you set off for two, five, eight or twelve days. Overnight accommodation is in tents or hunting huts, and you call at settlements and previously inhabited sites. There is of course plenty of time to enjoy the fantastic scenery. Safety is paramount and the sea in the archipelago is usually calm.

Wildlife safari in the town of the whales
Aasiaat has traditionally been known for its large populations of whales, and on a whale safari an experienced skipper will do his utmost to find the right spot where you and your camera can get up close to these giants of the sea. An added bonus is the large number of seals that you will also see on the trip, which will typically last three-five hours.

Snowmobiles, dogsleds or skis – you decide
When the ice covers the landscape, it is the winter activities that dominate in Aasiaat. Now you can visit the settlements by snowmobile or dogsled, and if you are attracted by cross-country skiing you are welcome to use the local skiing club’s well-prepared ski runs. And of course you can also experience the northern lights in Aasiaat.
