Kulusuk is both the name of the airport in East Greenland and the name of the settlement that lies a mile or so from there. Kulusuk is situated on a small island, so helicopters, boats and dogsleds are the only means of transport should you wish to travel onwards.
Examples of activities:
By jeep to the mountaintop
Kulusuk airport was originally part of the American Air Force’s early warning system. A road was therefore built from the airport eight kilometres (5 miles) to the top of a mountain close by, where a radar installation was established. This has now gone. However, from the mountaintop there is a magnificent view of the ice-filled Denmark Strait and the pointed mountain peaks in the distance. If you are fit enough, it is also possible to tackle the trip on a mountain bike.
