08.07.03 - Ipiutaq Guest Farm in South Greenland - a different vacation experience

Ipiutaq is a lovely sheep farm located in an area of stunning wilderness in South Greenland. Greenland.com has asked French-born Agathe Devisme, who is the female half of the married couple behind the farm, to describe what it is that makes the place ideal as a guest farm.

What is your product and what makes it distinct from other offers in Greenland?
Ipiutaq guest farm is the only guest farm in Greenland where you have the opportunity to sample French-Greenlandic cooking and play the piano in the wonderful lush surroundings of South Greenland.

What kinds of guests are attracted to your farm?
Based on the experience of our first season and the reactions of people having read an article or visited our website at www.ipiutaq.gl, we can conclude that our guests are people who like nature and peace and quiet, who're looking to get a real break from their busy everyday life, and who're interested in discovering another way of life, other cultures and food.

Agathe Devisme

What kind of services do you offer? What kind of activities can people do?
At Ipiutaq guest farm as it is today (2008 and 2009), we offer simple activities such as hiking and fishing (people can rent fishing rods), picking berries and plants (depending on the season), as well as allowing guests to "share" our everyday life.

When will you be accepting guests this year?
This summer we'll be working to establish the farm and will be able to welcome guests from June 15th to August 25th.

How can people get in contact with you?
Until the end of May it's possible to contact us by phone (tel. +299 64 93 03 + number 15) or by e-mail (guestfarm@ipiutaq.gl). From the beginning of June to the end of August, it's possible to contact us EITHER from Greenland by phone through Aasiaat radio (tel. 130, and ask for "ipiutaq-225"), OR from outside Greenland by phone through Blue Ice Explorer by giving your phone number, after which we'll call you back by radio (Blue Ice Explorer´s tel. +299 66 54 99/+299 49 73 71).

Which languages do you speak?
My husband, Kalista Poulsen, speaks Greenlandic, Danish and English; and I, Agathe, speak French, Danish (the latter at intermediate level) and English and can also understand some Spanish.

How many people can you accommodate?
In 2008 we can accommodate 2 people (one guestroom in our house with 2 single beds). From July 2009 we will be able to accommodate 6 to 8 guests in a guesthouse we're currently in the process of renovating.

Why should people visit you and come to South Greenland?
The guests will never forget their stay at Ipiutaq... and anyone who has visited South Greenland is always sure to come back!
