A visit to Greenland would not be complete without a visit to a good restaurant or eatery. Where else can you get a better insight into the country’s culture and culinary traditions? The majority of hotels in Greenland have a restaurant, but there are many other places to eat which can be visited should you wish to give your palate and your taste buds a treat.

In South Greenland there is Restaurant Napparsivik in Qaqortoq, which serves dishes from the North Atlantic kitchen. You can also see local happenings here, such as fashion shows.

In the capital, Nuuk, the Thai restaurant Charoen Porn serves Greenlandic sushi and Greenlandic coffee consisting of coffee, sugar and three different spirits topped with whipped cream. Also in Nuuk, Restaurant Nipisa specialises in seasonal ingredients served in a very elegant manner.

In Sisimiut there is a Chinese/Greenlandic restaurant, Misigisaq, and in Ilulissat you will find several good places to eat such as Restaurant Mamartut, Restaurant Ulo, Café Icefiord and finally Restaurant H8 at Rodebay, which is perhaps one of the best places to eat in the settlements in Greenland.

A love of Greenlandic ingredients is a characteristic shared by the best places to eat, of which the aforementioned places are just a selection. Head chefs all over the country create inventive dishes in which lamb, reindeer, musk ox, fish, shellfish and birds make up the exotic elements. Trials are currently being carried out with regard to growing Greenlandic potatoes, turnips, cucumbers and other vegetables in South Greenland. Angelica – which is similar to rhubarb – and wild berries have made up delicious accompaniments to both meat dishes and desserts for many years.
