Kangerlussuaq - or in Danish, Sdr. Strømfjord - is 60 km north of the polar circle, deep in one of the longest fjord in the world. Kangerlussuaq means "the long fjord", and it stretches over 175 km.

The area is distinguished by fantastic nature and rich biodiversity. There is nowhere else in Greenland where it is so easy to go so far into the interior. The landscape features enormous glacier formations which have ploughed deep into the dramatic tundra. On the plain between the fjord and the inland ice you will find Greenland's biggest herds of musk ox, reindeer and arctic foxes.
The climate is stable, with hot, dry summers and cold winters.
Previously an American military base for forty years, now Kangerlussuaq is the hub for civil aviation. Eighty percent of all journeys to and from Greenland mean passing through Kangerlussuaq, as there are connections to all local destinations from here.
Air Greenland flies the Copenhagen - Kangerlussuaq route all year round. In the peak holiday season, June, July and August, there are six departures a week. Outside this season, there are five. The flight takes around four hours forty minutes. During summer time, SAS will also fly between Copenhagen - Kangerlussuaq opening this May through September.
