Greenland tourism statistics

Here you can find key figures concerning tourism in Greenland. With the exception of these documents (Greenland's Tourism Statistics 2006 and Market analysis of tourism 2006-2007), the figures are are explained in Danish only.

Accommodation Statistics

In the accommodation statistics, you will find the numbers of overnight stays in Greenlandic hotels, seamen's homes and folk high schools. The data have been gathered from almost 100% of the Greenlandic accommodation capacity.

You can trace the movement of overnight stays per month in the statistics as well as changes in country of origin and the development in the different regions of Greenland. The hotel statistics have been registered since 1994. As mentioned above, the hotel statistics are in Danish only.

Flight Passenger Statistics

The flight passenger statistics are based on a survey among travellers leaving Greenland to go abroad on scheduled flights. The statistics are based on the World Tourism Organisation's definition of a tourist. Thus the flight passenger statistics include visitors who are in Greenland on vacation, on business, at a conference or visiting relatives.

As is the case with the hotel statistics, the flight passenger statistics are registered on a monthly basis and gives an indication of the distribution of visitors in the various Greenlandic regions, the visitors' country of origin and their age.

The flight passenger statistics have been made since year 2000. Replying is voluntary but the conclusions in the statistics are based on a statistically valid basis. These statistics are also only available in Danish.

Flight Passenger Statistics 2005 (27.02.2006) - in Danish Download. Unfortunately, no figures for 2006 will be available due to the introduction of a new method of collecting data.
